PRACTICAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT
THAT WORKS IN THE REAL WORLD

Step-by-step Project Management Framework that will help you deliver projects on-time and within budget
(without the fluff and unusable theory)

Yes, I Need This Course!

“What if you could grasp the essential PRACTICAL project management skills that will make you a professional PM capable of leading any team with confidence, easily managing project risks, and keeping stakeholders engaged, all in 20 minutes per work day?"

A little less than ten years ago, I was a Technical Support Engineer. You know, I wrote emails to customers to solve their issues with our software products.

When I got the job, I thought I would do this boring work all my life. I was at the lowest level of the company's hierarchy with zero authority. I had no technical background, and I didn't have a degree in management.

Due to my position, I interacted with Software Development Project Managers from time to time, and I quickly realized I wanted to become a PM myself. That was my dream job!

It took me several months to work my way up to the first software project to lead. But then my career exploded. My salary went up by 120% annually for the next four years in a row.

Hey, I'm Dmitriy founder of the PM Basics.
Hey, I'm Dmitriy founder of the PM Basics.

What's the secret of such rapid career growth?

  1. Understanding of how different pieces of project management work as a whole (from start to end).
  2. Leadership skills that allow you to manage experienced team members and authoritative stakeholders.
  3. Ability to demonstrate your project management achievements to recruiters and your boss.

Now, let me elaborate on these points...

How to Master Project Management and Become a Successful PM?

How many times have you Googled something like “risk management” or “scope management example”? Or what about things like:

  • How to create WBS, schedule, and budget?
  • Best project management tools
  • How to lead a team so that delegated tasks get done well and on time?
  • How to track multiple projects and sub-tasks at once
  • Project budgeting
  • How to work with scope creep

Yet with each of these, and more, the search either pulls up a million ads for various certifications or else shows you bits and pieces of the project management. Both of which really leave you wondering how to put it all together?

I think you’ll agree with me when I say…

In the end, it feels like you know the theory, but your confidence falls apart when it gets to practice or putting it on paper.

In fact, it adds more doubts because you aren’t sure if you need a PMP certification, experience with Scrum, ITIL, Six Sigma, SAFe, a master’s degree in management, or all of the above! What is it that will help you feel like things don’t keep slipping from your control?

7 Things I Wish Someone Told Me About Being a Project Manager in Advance

  1. Your PM mentor will teach you everything you need to know. Wrong! He'll never have time for you. You are on your own.
  2. Everyone speaks about being a leader, but no one can explain how to do it on a daily basis.
  3. Each project has difficult personalities, and you can't simply fire them. How to deal with difficult people on a project is a separate skillset.
  4. Your boss wants you to manage stakeholders. (But he limits it to only writing progress reports and proper emails).
  5. Scope Management is the most critical knowledge domain, but your leadership cares only about schedule and budget.
  6. You must know how to manage project risks from day one.
  7. Project Management is not a standardized profession. (None of the certifications prepares you for the real-world responsibilities of a PM).

Now, I can almost hear you thinking…

Wait! Isn't PMI's PMP certification a golden standard of project management? It teaches everything you need to know to be a Project Manager.

No. Let me explain it.

The Truth About PMP Certification

Did you know that you need to maintain your PMP certification in 3-year cycles?

Here’s what Project Management Institute doesn’t publish:

There’s severe attrition of project managers after the first cycle. It means that they don’t maintain their certification and let it expire.

Why?

Because they got the certification for one purpose only - to get a promotion.

It doesn't explain to you how to lead a team, how to communicate with difficult stakeholders, or even how to implement risk management that they teach in the real life.

I agree. You should get a PMP certification once you have 3-5 years of real project management experience AND a proven track record of successful projects. It may give you a salary boost.

For now, you need to focus on understanding:

  1. How project management works as a whole.
  2. Why stakeholders are essential.
  3. How to manage project scope and risks.
  4. Practical steps to be a leader.

You need a little guidance on what’s important during the first few years of your career to achieve rapid growth.

Yes, you lead a project already. But do you take all the benefits of the profession?

In the US, we are talking about up to 147K per year. But even when you adjust it for your region, you still get 50-80% more than a non-project management role.

Here’s the interesting part…

Project Management Should NOT Be Complex

I have been developing my project management approach for ten years on different projects and in different companies. I applied the same Core Project Management Framework each time, even on large enterprise projects.

It not only worked for me, but also for dozens of other project managers I taught.

Why?

Three clear reasons:

  1. My Core Framework has a great emphasis on how to instantly become a leader for your team, how to influence stakeholders, and people management in general.
  2. The Core Project Management Framework provides a complete set of simple processes and tools to manage project scope, budget, and schedule in the real world.
  3. It's a practical framework, which means you can follow the step-by-step process to deliver a project on-time and within budget.

Just think…

Instead of wasting months on learning overwhelming amounts of inapplicable theory and searching Google for answers, you know exactly where to focus your efforts.

What if you knew a proven project management framework that you can apply at once and be confident that you do it in the right way.

That’s why I have taken everything I learned from ten years of practical experience in managing software development projects.

Then, I put together the CORE Project Management Framework with hands-on, real-world examples and practical methods explained and demonstrated in a way that will help you confidently finish your first projects on-time and within budget, become a leader, and rapidly grow your career.

Vitaliy, Senior Project Manager

"I'm pretty sure nowhere can you find such a unique mix of real-world experience and book-learning. Simply one of the best managers and mentors I knew."

I'm Ready to Enroll

Bonus 1: My Personal Stakeholder Management System

Identify Stakeholders... What does that mean in the real world? How do you actually do it?

In this bonus, I’ll share the “Circles” approach to finding and categorizing stakeholders. I’ll give you a workflow and exact questions you can use to discover all the people who are interested in your project.

Next, you’ll get a simple tool that helps you to keep stakeholders engaged, committed to their promises, and fully informed about your project.

Last but not least, I’ll share my experience in managing difficult, micromanaging, or disengaged stakeholders.

This bonus will ensure you build efficient communication with all critical stakeholders while not spending the whole day on meetings in Zoom.

Bonus 2: Step-by-Step Guide to Leadership

I read dozens of books on leadership. For ten years I’ve been testing lots of approaches and techniques.

So, you don’t need to read all those books. You don’t need to be a natural-born leader. You can learn it from this course.

With this bonus, you’ll get a simple approach to win the respect of your team quickly. You’ll build rapport and professional relationships with key people on your project. And you’ll learn how to set goals and ensure commitment from the team so that they perform at the highest level.

I’ll teach you how to create a feeling of ownership and responsibility for the project with your people.

The same approaches work with clients, your boss, all other stakeholders. Even as a junior project manager you can follow these steps and become a great leader. A leader that people love to work with.

Bonus 3: How to Easily Manage Project Scope with WBS

This standalone mini-course will teach you how to create and use a Work Breakdown Structure or WBS on your project. WBS is the most efficient way to manage project scope.

You’ll learn the underlying principles and best practices of scope management. It means that you can apply this knowledge even if you don’t use a WBS on your project and don’t have any project management software.

With this knowledge, you’ll organize the project work and add structure to all your project management efforts. You’ll get clarity on what you need to do each day, how to communicate it to stakeholders, and how to control the work of your team.

With proper WBS, it feels like you are in total control of your project. That’s how professional PMs manage projects.

What's My Investment?

You got your first project, but everything is new. You need to make serious decisions, and you’re afraid to fail your career right from the start.

It feels like you know what to do in theory, but you can’t implement it because no one showed you an example.

And, yes, you have a full-time job as a project manager, and you don’t have much time and energy to learn project management on the fly.

In any case, as I see it, you have two options here:

  • Option #1: You try to get through it on your own and entirely possibly fail your very first project. It’ll keep you in the same place this time next year, with lots of wasted efforts and no further promotion.
  • Option #2: You 100% commit to becoming a capable project manager during the next few weeks with practical knowledge and skills, ready to lead any project.

And you make this decision right now.

Does it Really Work?

Perun

Sergey Perun, PPM Course Student

"I worked in the e-Sport industry as editor-in-chief for three years. I had leadership experience, but I always wanted to be a manager of something significant. Lately when I decided to push my career further it appeared that there are no opportunities for me in the company in which I work right now.

I got the Practical Project Management Course from Dmitriy quite long ago. Yet for some reason, I was putting it off for a later date. Now, I decided to act!

In short few weeks, I reviewed the course materials and re-wrote my CV from scratch. Just like the course suggests I used achievements. I positioned myself as a Project Manager.

Within a month I had five interviews. I managed to get a job offer for an IT Project Manager from a small company. And the offer was 26% higher than the average for an entry-level role!

Many thanks!

Sergey"

What people asked before signing up for the Practical Project Management Course?

IF YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE COURSE - WRITE ME AN EMAIL AT DMITRIY@PMBASICS101.COM.

Why is this course better than other courses on project management? Expand

First of all, it comes from my practical experience leading projects, not from the inapplicable theory from books.

Second, I included all you need to be a great manager today. You get lessons on project management, leadership, motivation, agile frameworks, and career development — all in one place. So, you don’t need to get a separate course on each topic.

Third, I don’t need to certify you. I don’t have to overwhelm you with unnecessary information. The course includes only the practical things in a structured way that a project manager uses in the real world.

I have some PM experience already. How will the course help me? Expand

If you don’t have a formal project management education, you’ll learn how to manage projects in the real world in a structured and predictable way. You’ll get insights on how to integrate the project, how to manage risks, create a budget in such a way that it all works as a cohesive whole.

This way, you’ll be sure you do the right things at the right time, and it will lead to project success in the long run. You’ll be confident in your actions and knowledge.

In addition to that, you’ll learn how to boost your career further and become a senior project manager.

I'm not a Project Manager yet. Does the program teach how to become a PM? Expand

Yes, it does. In fact, you'll find extra training on how to become a project manager from scratch. All the program's knowledge and skill will help you create a new resume of a project manager, pass an interview, and get your first job.
I have lots of success stories where people become project managers without any prior experience.

I’m an experienced Project Manager. Will I learn something new? Expand

A great question!

First, this course is an excellent refresher for you.

Second, in the IT industry, we heavily rely on motivation, leadership, and agile project management. If it’s not your top strengths, I’ve got lots of experience to share.

Finally, if you read this far, you have some doubts about your knowledge and skills. You can validate your expertise with this course and compare your project management approach with mine. It will show you opportunities for improvement.

I have a Full-Time Job. How much time do I need to dedicate to the Course? Expand

I created the Course specifically with you in mind. I do understand that you have a job, family, and other commitments.

To make significant progress, you need to dedicate about 20-30 minutes per day.

All the lessons are short. Coaching calls come with meeting notes. This way, you can watch only the part that interests you the most.

How long do I have access to the Course? Expand

You get lifetime access.

Why should I NOT invest in a Project Management Certification instead? Expand

Great question! Happy you asked it.

Let’s break it down:

We have two entry-level options: PMI CAPM and PRINCE2 Foundation (only if you are in the UK).

Both of them are 100% theoretical. They don’t teach you how to manage a project in the real world.

PMI PMP is the best certification that proves your practical experience as well as in-depth knowledge of project management. But you need to have 3 years of practical and proven project management experience. I don’t recommend cheating here. It may backfire in the future.

ITIL is also theoretical and has little value for a Junior PM. Moreover, it’s a super expensive path.

Certified Scrum Master is simply not enough to manage an IT project. It teaches you only the Scrum Framework.

On the contrary, the Perfect Junior Project Manager Course focuses on PRACTICAL aspects of leading a project. My goal is to teach you how to lead a project in the real world.

Here, you get an adequate amount of knowledge from all of these certifications.

How long does it take to get through the course? Expand

Usually, it takes one month to get through the course at an average speed. But if you have more free time, it’s entirely feasible to do it in two weeks.

How do I get my money back if I don’t find the Course valuable? Expand

All you need to do is to write me an email at dmitriy@pmbasics101.com within 30 days from your purchase.

Can I become an IT Project Manager without a technical background? Expand

Technical Background is a competitive advantage on the hiring market. But it’s not a mandatory requirement.

Your main goal is to prove that you have enough leadership skills to use the input of the best technical experts on the team. In the PJPM Course, I teach how to do it.

So, the majority of companies will take a PM without technical skills. However, big tech giants like Google and Amazon most likely will not. But it’s not the companies I recommend starting with.

Moreover, the more project management experience you get the less valuable this technical background becomes.

Still undecided?

PRACTICAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT IS PERFECT FOR YOU IF…

You are an accidental Project Manager and just starting.

You don’t have a formal PM education. But your boss selected you because you have a talent for getting well with people. They listen to you, and you are responsible. Now, you want to be a professional Project Manager.

You are a Junior Project Manager or Project Coordinator.
